Magnetic polishing liquid (MPL), a mixture of MF (magnetic fluid), MRF (magneto-rheological fluid), abrasive particles and cellulose fibbers, was proposed newly for surface finishing. Its behaviour under the magnetic field and fundamental performance in contact force-free surface finishing were investigated. This article describes the experimentally obtained results involving the behaviours of MPL under different magnetic fields and the surface quality improvement in metal surface polishing using the new MPL.
