This explorative study investigated the role and impact of entrepreneurial activity on economic growth through a comparison of two different business start-up initiatives. The first is the development of a business incubator in a city location in Australia and the second is the development of a technology park in regional Portugal. The study focused on how entrepreneurial teams can develop new ventures that facilitate business growth and how startup entrepreneurs can play a significant role in community motivation and the development of economic change in different regions of the world (Putnam, 1993). The study develops a conceptual framework to address the relationship between entrepreneurial activity and community development from a social capital perspective.
