Cross cultural differences in language learning

Can foreign language leaming be separated from knowledge of the culture of the country where the language being learned originated? In this article written exam papers completed by first year university students were studied to find the differences between the learning styles of Australian and Chinese students, and further, if experience of the culture of the country where the language being learned originated from really affected learning of the language?
