Dirty Work and the HR Profession

This paper develops the discussion on 'dirty work' from the occupational level of analysis to the task level. This approach highlights the social construction mechanisms involved in dirty work and provides insight to the importance of the management of taint. An ex ample of human resource professionals is used to reveal how some roles are more highly stigmatised than others.
