An examination of stress as experienced in an entrepreneurial context was conducted through an extensive literature review of prior entrepreneurial, management and executive stress research. Findings have been integrated into an earlier conceptual model of executive stress as developed by McGrath, in which the conceptual model was expanded upon to encompass factors unique to entrepreneurs such as the impact of coping strategies upon the entrepreneurial venture. Research investigating stress states, the impact of coping strategies, and the added dimension of the entrepreneur’s relationship with the venture (which are not experienced by executives), have been integrated into the conceptual model.
