CFRP Strengthening of steel structures is still not widely used by structural engineers due to the debonding issues between steel and CFRP and because of lack of design-guidelines availability. Number of research papers focussed on the bond properties between CFRP and steel structures with different parameters. This paper shows a new strengthening system by adding additional layer of bi-directional CFRP sheet to the CFRP-steel double strap joints. The physical testing of this new method has already been investigated by preparing 45 samples using different lengths of bi-directional CFRP sheets. The current study focusses on the modelling of these CFRPsteel joints with an additional layer of bi-directional sheet using non-linear finite element analysis. The results showed good agreement with the actual test results, the joint capacity is increased by up to 47% and this technique showed some delay in the debonding failure.
