In this paper, we seek to explore the potential of the mobile device as a tool for creating and/or delivering narrative based content. In a world where mobile device specifications differ from model to model, old wisdoms cannot be refashioned. The narrative artefact becomes device dependant and this greatly affects the quality of the user experience. We expose the conditions of possibility and constraints afforded by current developments in mobile phone technology. We examine the possibilities of very small screens for storytelling with a focus on the relationship of the viewer to a narrative artefact that lives in miniature. Things that fit within the hand have a special relation to us and often find a way into our hearts. In this paper we draw on the aesthetics of Western and Eastern traditions to explore ways in which these may inspire contemporary practice in mobile small screen media and miniature narratives.
