Despite growing interest in social entrepreneurship, education and training programs that address the needs of socially-motivated individuals and organizations are scarce. This paper reports on the results of a recent study by the Working Group for Education and Training in Philanthropy and Social Investment. The study examined the supply of and demand for education and training in various topic areas relevant to social entrepreneurship, including corporate social responsibility, fundraising, grant making and social enterprise. The study identified a significant gap in education and training in these areas and revealed that universities are the preferred education/training provider and are seen to have the credibility, rigor, and impartiality required to implement a common standard of education and training in the field.
