The experience of a group of academics, predominantly with teaching expertise, facing the challenge of developing research expertise in order to meet the demands of changed funding models in Australian universities is tile focus of this paper. In particular, the contribution of the Educational Development Facilitator's workshop series 'Getting Good Research from Teaching' as a strategy to achieve this is examined. Both student learning and groupwork literature, is applied to this experience of academics. The outcomes of the workshop series are assessed in terms of nurturing the fledgling research culture and developing quality research output.
