The results from a survey of a random national sample of Australian households profiling the characteristics of current non-broadband and broadband households are presented. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Household Use of Information Technology survey reports that 16% of households in 2004/05 had broadband Internet access and by 2007/08, it had increased to 52%. The average household income of broadband households is 60% higher than non-broadband households. The 98% of broadband households access the Internet at least several times per week from home and 63% have two or more computers. The non-broadband households who did access the Internet from home spent more time for social and family related activities (2.8 hrs) than entertainment (2 hrs) and work (1.8 hrs).
