In 1979 I was handed a life sentence; the task of setting up a course within the Monash University Master of Environmental Science Degree in Systems Thinking and the Social Construction of Reality. Once I'd understood the terms of that sentence (it took some five years), my new understanding facilitated a new life within my immediate reality as a chronically ill person and of course in the wider dimensions of my life in general. And so began a radically different and much healthier relationship to my condition.
