The article discusses the rescue and retrieval of two gold miners, Todd Russell and Brant Webb, at the Beaconsfield gold mine in Tasmania. It uses the reporting of Beaconsfield event to explore notions of celebrity and infotainment. Moreover, the event in Beaconsfield is notable because it notices a change in television news reporting, confirmation of the increasing tabloidisation and news commodification and the impact of celebrity on news production in Australia.
