This article looks at the issue of dual citizenship as outlined in the reports: 'Canadian citizenship: a sense of belonging' and 'Australians all: enhancing Australian citizenship'. The author discusses the problems that Canada has had to face in dealing with dual citizenship and looks at conflicts of interest and allegiance that may arise. She states that Australia is now moving to embrace dual citizenship. While some naturalised immigrants in Australia, have a de facto dual citizenship because their country of origin does not withdraw their original citizenship when they become Australians, Australian law does not recognise dual citizenship. However, the author points to research that argues that Australian law ought to recognise dual citizenship.
