The article discusses the application of pragmatist thought to design research and practice. The application of theory and concepts from neo-pragmatist philosopher Richard Rorty is discussed, as well as the appearance of the concepts of pragmatist philosopher John Dewey in 21st-century design theory. An analysis of the consequences of Rorty's claims of redescription and scholarly vocabularies for the field of design research is presented. The expanded pragmatist approach of epistemological and methodological scholarship is also examined as a potentially beneficial perspective.
