Staying in touch: news content delivery to the Antarctic: media dependency, digital technology and journalism

This paper shows how a particular group of individuals living in a very remote part of Australian territory - researchers and support staff at the four Australian owned and operated research bases in Antarctica: Mawson, Davis, Casey and Macquarie Island - obtained their news and informational content in mid-2002, in the complete absence of a large commercial media operation, by using innovative applications of digital and more traditional technology.
