Sustainability---a popular term in design practice and design research that can be defined and discussed from many perspectives. This issue of 'Implications' focuses on ways in which issues relating to sustainability can be explored in the realms of education, social change, and the built environment. Three projects relating to sustainability in the realms of social change and the built environment will be reviewed. The Faculty of Design at Swinburne University of Technology (Swinburne Design) in Melbourne, Australia, have a commitment to sustainability as a field of research. Along with internationalization and research, Ken Friedman, Dean and Professor, sees sustainability as a key theme in the education of design students. Learning units on sustainability are continually being developed and embedded into the design curriculum.
