The compactness of the short form allows 'Swimming with daddy' to be both complete and suggestive. This work of fiction is infused with personal history: it borrows from a factual relationship between father and daughter. The story is autobiographical fiction and examples the cathartic nature of storytelling, for writer and reader. Event memories are reconfigured to distort history, to tell an engaging story drawn from anthropological knowledge, a story that offers its own cleansing to the author and, potentially, the reader.
