The explosion of broadband communications usage is influencing many areas of society, government and industry. Wireless technologies have an important role to play in contributing to the meeting these demands. However wireless technologies face a unique constraint to fulfilling the demands of broadband growth: there are physical limitations to its capability imposed by the finite amount of radiofrequency spectrum. Addressing this constraint involves the development, implementation and facilitation of a range of mechanisms across the domains of technology vendors, network operators and the spectrum regulator respectively. This article takes an informative look at the drivers, limitations and solutions to the issue of wireless broadband spectrum bandwidth constraints across three groups of stakeholders.
