This article examines Australia’s response to the 1972 expulsion of Asians from Uganda. It compares the policies of the McMahon and Whitlam governments, and contrasts them with those of the Howard government. It analyses Australia’s contribution towards relieving the plight of Asians from Uganda against the background of the international response to Idi Amin’s decree.
