Meeting media needs: what you learn when you ask your students questions

Many Western journalism educators, especially those working in convergent media, conduct workshops for their colleagues in developing countries. Nongovernment organizations (in my case the Malaysia-based Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development, AIBD) hire us to pass on outside knowledge to locals so that media routines and coverage can be improved.
