This presentation describes the Smart Mobility Research Facility at Swinburne University of Technology. This Facility comprises a virtual transport modelling platform hosted at the Hawthorn Campus where significant research in smart mobility is being conducted. The Facility is used to pre-process and analyse field data from real-life networks in Melbourne for subsequent use in modelling and testing of different mobility solution scenarios. The Facility is intended to enable Swinburne's multi-disciplinary researchers and industry practitioners to demonstrate the readiness of advanced systems and accelerate deployment of multi-modal smart transport technologies through testing of prototypes in a simulation environment. The multi-disciplinary research program supported under this Facility includes projects that will directly benefit both fundamental and applied research in this field. The talk will discuss the main components of the simulation platform and present examples of case studies including simulations of impacts of driverless vehicles and autonomous mobility on demand systems. The establishment of this Facility presents a unique opportunity to enhance support for Australian research and innovation by building on the success of Australian smart mobility technologies and intellectual capital. The facility also represents a major investment in the future of smart mobility research in Australia and will provide a unique training ground for students, staff and industry practitioners.
