The clonal selection theory of acquired immunity provides a relatively graceful to comprehend explanation for the diversity and specificity of the acquired immune system. This easy of comprehension is deceptive as much of the specific details that underlie the theory are abstracted. This work provides a brief review of some of the physiological and immunochemical aspects of antigen-antibody interaction with a special focus on antibody bound to the surface of lymphocyte cells (B-cell receptors), and their role in the clonal selection theory of acquired immunity.
