Blurred boundaries: social media and social connection in outer metropolitan suburbs

Download (29.16 MB)
The briefing provides evidence of how digital technologies foster or hinder social connection based on common issues and tensions that emerged from analysis of Phase 1 interviews with residents. It offers a detailed account of residents' lived experiences of supporting social connection through various digital tools and platforms. These insights will inform the co-design of tools and interventions, in collaboration with research partners, to promote social connection within the community. This briefing focuses primarily on the intersection of digital technology and social connection. The findings related to physical spaces, places and social infrastructure for social connection have already been presented in Research Briefing 1.
