Darwin’s natural selection theory of evolution to explain the origin of species is the archetype selectionist theory that inspired Jerne and Burnet’s clonal selection theory of antibody diversity in immunology and various selectionist theories neurology such as Edelman’s neuronal group selection theory. This work reviews these three seminal selectionist theories, and some general comments on universal selection-based theories and frameworks.
