What might television and video look like in a year’s time, in a few years’ time, in a decade? We came up with 20 questions and put them to 25 people. Between November 2014 and April 2015, we interviewed those 25 people from free-to-air and subscription TV, IPTV, production companies, telecommunications and IT, online and social media, advertising, audience measurement, a government funding agency and elsewhere. This report is an edited summary of their responses. It is written and published at a critical time for the industry, at the moment when online subscription video services appeared to arrive ‘all at once’ in Australia, the United States and other markets. Produced as part of a research project supported by the Australian Research Council, the ABC and Screen Australia, TV 2025 follows earlier reports covering Online Video in Australia (2012) and Cinema in Australia (2013), also published by the Swinburne Institute for Social Research.
