Dr. Hassan applied scientific computing thinking and tools to design and demonstrate a data analysis and visualization solution able to cope with the anticipated growth in the size and complexity of astronomical data sets. He focused on two main problems imposed by the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder: visualizing massive data cubes, and source finding in spectral data cubes. His work emphasises the improvements needed in astronomical data analysis tools. Through his work, radio astronomers are now better-placed to overcome technical challenges imposed by new large scale observational facilities, which will allow them to focus on scientific outcomes.
