This thesis examines scriptwriting practice and its interaction with production processes in Australian film. From the perspective of the scriptwriter, the investigation explores creative practice within the film development and production process. The thesis makes two key contributions to the knowledge and understanding of Australian filmmaking. Using an autoethnographic method, it firstly examines the experience of scriptwriting from an insider’s perspective. Secondly, it shifts the emphasis in film studies from textual analysis to the field of theories of practice to provide grounded insights into Australian filmmaking and a new approach to investigating creative practice in the field of film.
