Background: ST- elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is common in Malaysia. Patients affected are getting younger as compared to patients in the Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) registry. Treatment outcomes for STEMI are best when patients are treated at tertiary referral cardiology centers (TRCC). Specialist treatment and personnel fees are intensively expensive; however the actual cost for providing medical treatment for STEMI in Malaysia has yet to be established. There is hence a need for an effective costing software prototype. This study focuses on countries that are running on a dual-tiered healthcare system. In this system, the government subsidized majority of the healthcare expenses for the citizens.
