A patient-centred comprehensive digital intervention solution to improve adherence to oral anti-cancer agents among adults with cancer
This research addresses the critical issue of medication non-adherence, which occurs when patients do not take medications as prescribed by their doctors. This widespread issue affects half of adults with chronic conditions, leading to disease progression, hospitalisations, and economic strain. The SAMSON solution, co-designed with patients and healthcare professionals, includes an app for medication reminders, symptom tracking, and self-care advice, along with a training platform to equip healthcare professionals with motivational communication skills. Pilot testing demonstrated its acceptability and usefulness, highlighting its potential to improve medication adherence, reduce hospitalisations, and alleviate healthcare costs, contributing to better health outcomes in Australia.
