Steel is the most commonly used and recyclable material available on earth. However, for every tonne of steel made, nearly twice the amount of carbon dioxide is produced. This thesis is contributed towards reducing the carbon footprints from the steel making industry through the development of two novel processing routes of iron ores, which is the basic ingredient of making steel. First proposed process is an alternative cleaner route of magnetite ore agglomeration. The other process involves using concentrated solar heat to substitute nearly 50 per cent of fossil fuels responsible for process heat generation during ironmaking.
