Ambient Future investigates how ambient culture was identified and defined as an influence upon music, and how it then spread to a wide range of other social, cultural, and organisational contexts. It defines “ambient practice” as a transferrable set of approaches that have evolved from the mindset inherent in ambient music. Ambient Future surveys the history of ambient music in the twentieth century and identifies key aspects of ambient practice that have parallels in media, marketing and political communications. It establishes how ambient practice has become a subtle influence on almost all aspects of culture, communication, and social organisation.
