This study proposes novel battery packs in electric vehicles based on the origami structure, which integrates the cooling system and mechanical structure into one single component. In terms of the cooling performance, the maximum temperature can be reduced by up to 5°C and 45°C, under the fast-discharging and short-circuit conditions, respectively. For the mechanical property, the origami structure enhances the peak crushing force by 200kN, and the impact energy absorption capability is improved by up to 107% under the quasi-static and dynamic conditions. Furthermore, the volume utilization rate for the energy storage can be increased from 61.5% to 85.5%.
