Dr Md Habibur Rahman's research deals with the analysis of flows of fluids that contain ferro-nano-particles and thus can be controlled by the application of an external magnetic field. In particular, he studied convection flows of non-isothermal synthetic ferrofluids that are used in modern cooling systems. Linear stability of pure magnetic and magneto-gravitational convection in a layer of ferrofluid placed in a uniform oblique external magnetic has been investigated. It has been found that the arising thermomagnetic convection is caused by the spatial variation of magnetization occurring due to its dependence on the temperature. The investigation has also revealed that the stability characteristics of magneto-convection in ferrofluids depend not only on the inclination of the applied magnetic field, but also on its magnitude. Such characteristics have been shown to be qualitatively different from those of similar flows of natural paramagnetic fluids that have a much weaker magnetisation.
