Podcasting is uniquely positioned as a medium for producers to experiment with audio formats and develop new approaches to journalism. Podcast journalism is now emerging as its own form. This doctoral project comprises an exegesis and three-part podcast series artefact about independent podcasting in Australia, questioning: What is the contribution of emerging independent podcast producers in Australia to podcasting and journalism? These producers make four important contributions: (1) acting as ‘change agents’ via (2) their rejection of economic capital for their podcasts (3) their approach to the interviewer/interviewee relationship, and (4) their hybridisation of fact and fiction.
