Plastics bags are resourceful materials used in all venues of everyday life. Yet, they create menace all over the world. They are wasteful burden on the environment. And once disposed to the environment, they can't be degraded. In this work, we studied a special fungus which has the ability to break down plastic bags. We were able to isolate an enzyme called Laccase. This enzyme has the ability to oxidise plastic bags in the presence of nutrients. This work can be an important step in lifting the burden of plastics have on the environment.
