This thesis examines the networks of collaboration, trust and knowledge transfer among 170 researchers across 13 public research institutions acknowledged as world-leaders in a new technique of making polymers. It combines social network analysis as the framework for the analysis of the quantitative data with qualitative interview techniques. The thesis contributes to the limited literature on collaboration and knowledge transfer between public research organisations and adds to the understanding of the drivers and barriers of collaboration, trust and knowledge transfer in the commercialisation of public research.
