This thesis looked at China's aid relations with Zimbabwe as a reflection of how China uses aid to engage with other developing nations. The analysis culminates into the development of a theory that proposes that China uses aid as a foreign policy tool, but the success of the policy depends on the role played by the aid host countries. The study argues that host countries are not pawns in the hands of China, being used to advance China's interests, but they are active participants conscious to China interests and strategies. The study helps readers understand the context in which China relates with aid host nations.
