Clarice Beckett: a biography and exegesis

thesis
posted on 2024-07-25, 10:50 authored by Rosalind Hollinrake
This biography of the Australian artist Clarice Beckett is complemented by a scholarly exegesis that reflects on my work as biographer and provides the theoretical framework that informed my analysis in constructing my subject. I aimed in the biography to elucidate the major importance of her art to Australian culture and art history. In writing the biography my intention was to respectfully and empathetically give Clarice Beckett a voice and to bring her, together with her paintings, within her lived environment. Together, the biography and exegesis relate how I was continually in search of my fugitive subject.
