The thesis examines different categories (or types) of firesetting among three subgroups, including mentally disordered firesetters, female firesetters, and firesetters who are responsible for the most destructive and injurious fires - referred to in the thesis as high-consequence firesetters. The research addresses the limitations in the literature regarding these subgroups of firesetters and highlights nuanced differences that are specific to each of the subgroups, which is relevant to theory development, forensic psychological practice and investigative practice.
