In this study, the multi-axis substructure testing system at Swinburne University of Technology is used to conduct a series of three-dimensional quasi-static cyclic and hybrid simulation tests on concrete-filled steel tube columns to investigate their potential in development of a ductile soft-story in multi-story buildings. The project is expected to provide valuable scarce experimental data of the three-dimensional response of these elements that can be used to calibrate and improve the capabilities of analytical models for collapse assessment. This will lead to the design and construction of safer and resilient multi-story buildings, particularly in regions of low to moderate seismicity.
