This dissertation reports on the experimental and theoretical study of the generation of extreme ultraviolet light with an intense laser via the high-order harmonic generation process. The properties of the generated light are controlled and enhanced by using a controllable array of gas jets as the generation medium and by using a second laser beam in concert with the first.
