In a densely populated area, one might notice they are surrounded by numerous cellular base stations. Their mobile device then has to pick a suitable base station to connect to. This user allocation problem is a very mature and well-studied problem in wireless communication. Nevertheless, since the advent of mobile edge computing, where base stations now have computational capabilities with the support of edge servers, the user allocation problem must be redefined to adapt to mobile edge computing environments. This thesis investigates the user allocation problem from the perspective of an app vendor, who needs to achieve several optimization objectives with regards to operational cost and user quality of experience.
