Family businesses are a significant contributor to the economy making succession planning a critical issue. Wives contribution to children’s involvement in the business and succession planning is largely overlooked. This thesis critically analyses how wives’ experiences in the business impact on their feelings and actions in relation to their children’s involvement. It pays particular attention to how they co-create the business, emphasizing the importance of their care work to outcomes of status and responsibility. The thesis shows how and why some are influential as drivers of succession planning while others are complicit in undermining succession.
