This thesis aims to understand how a cell changes itself, so it can become a certain identity in the future. Two instances of cell fate changes were studied. The first was a process of quality control that immune cells set for themselves to ensure appropriate maturation. The second was mechanisms that control morphological stability when a cell duplicates. These two events occur frequently in our body, and are error-prone. Thus this thesis provides insights of cell-autonomous mechanisms that might influence disease initiation.
