Composite coatings made of titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) and hydroxyapatite (HA) can enhance the corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel used for prosthetic applications. Different techniques have already been adopted to produce pure HA or composite coatings on different substrates for biomedical applications. The research yielded deposition of composite coatings and material from HA and Ti-6Al-4V on austenitic stainless steel by using laser-assisted deposition technique. The study incorporates microstructural, chemical and mechanical characterization of the developed composite coating. The research also covers temperature and cooling rate determination for the relationship establishment between different microstructural and mechanical parameters with those two.
