Sleep disorders are a major socio-economic concern globally, and is related to other major diseases including heart attack. Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) accounts for 73% of sleeping disorders in Australia. Current treatments and remedial devices such as CPAP machines, dentures, tennis balls, and surgery offered limited cure, and are expensive, uncomfortable and invasive. This research engineered a novel, comfortable, non-invasive ergonomic sleep system using virtual reality, augmented reality and computational airway modelling. This sleep system was prototyped and patented. Sleep trials conducted on the ergonomic sleep system showed significant improvements in over 80% of the participants by reducing OSA levels.
