To keep any road network at an acceptable level of service and preserve the assets; pavement management systems should be enhanced with reliable and accurate models for predicting pavement condition. Such models can assist road agencies in the planning of their short and long term maintenance programs and estimate required budgets. The aim of this research project is to develop powerful deterioration models for rural arterial road pavements, using a representative sample from Victoria. Condition parameters modelled include surface roughness, deformation in wheel paths and surface cracking. In this project, novel approaches have been used for both data preparation and modelling of condition parameters.
