This thesis focuses on developing a preschool emotional competence program that takes into consideration theoretical underpinnings, educators' needs and the Singaporean context. Two studies were undertaken. Study 1 surveyed the current practices and challenges faced by educators when developing children's emotional competence. These insights and a review of existing programs informed the development of the "I Feel..." program. Study 2 was a preliminary examination of the program's effectiveness and usefulness. Results indicate positive program impact on both children and educators. It was also well received by the children, educators and parents, and showed considerable promise for further interventions.
