In Australia the third largest source of greenhouse gases is the transport sector (17%) with passenger cars accounting for around half of all transport emissions. This paper presents results from a research project that developed and evaluated a new tool to help decision-makers estimate the carbon footprint of the transport networks within their precincts and municipalities, and to evaluate the reductions from low carbon mobility interventions. The research was developed based on a framework that integrates multiple components including individual travel preferences, traffic simulation, and a calculator interface. A study of Port Phillip Council was also conducted and analysed.
