There is an increasing pressure on coal-fired power stations to increase the rate of fly ash utilisation as a best solution for the environmental problems associated with fly ash storage and management. One of the high-value added applications of fly ash is to convert it into lightweight aggregates that can be used to produce lightweight concrete. Manufacturing of economical and good quality fly ash aggregates will reduce the impact of fly ash on the environment and provide a great benefit to the economy. This thesis provides a study on the development of synthetic lightweight aggregates from fly ash using innovative curing techniques which are applied for very short time.
